Malaria prevention continues to be a major health issue in tropical West Africa. In Brikama The Gambia, Kaira resource center is working with local communities to mobilize families in fighting against malaria. Kaira Resource will open its Brikama Center later in December 2009 and continue its malaria-prevention outreach programs. The resource center is looking for donation of mosquito nets to distribute to the general population in the city of Brikama. This is only a temporary solution. In addition, the Brikama center facility will include a computer, screening, and yoga rooms and a library in our continuing effort to support education and improve community infrastructure. One of the challenges is to provide children with access to books. Kaira Resource Center actively participates in various charity fundraising events to raise money to fund education, and public awareness programs to reduce premature birth. Other activities will include holding numerous clothing, food and toy drives throughout the year to be shipped in Brikama. We are also planning to get involved in numerous community projects ranging from support for local cultural events to eventually micro-lending to women who are the backbone of the African family.
